Boxer Dog Training

One of the larger members of the canine family, the boxer dog is one of the perennial favorites in the category of guard dogs. A heavy duty kind of dog, the boxer dog has been used historically in a lot of things including the circus, farms, detention units, and the patrol police. Because of this, the boxer dog has come to be one of the perennial favorites not only of the police department but of many households as well. This is especially true because of the fact that the boxer dog offers something more than just plain old ferocity which any old dog can show as well, but because of the fact that the boxer dog is also an excellent companion to have around the house, and a working definition of what it means for a dog to be man’s best friend.

The boxer dog is a working dog

There are many types of dogs available that love to work because of the natural activeness that comes with being a dog. However, the boxer dog is a special case in point because in the past the boxer dog has been used in a wide variety of fields including the battleground where it used to serve as a courier dog for the wounded soldiers and for delivering communications at the height of the World War II.

Intelligence is one of the other defining features of the boxer dog

Not only can it withstand the battlefield, after all, but it can even deliver letters along the way. This is one of the reasons why the boxer dog has also been used by invalids such as the blind for leading the way, because the boxer dog is intelligent enough to know where to safely lead the blind. In fact, one of the other places where the boxer dog can be found is the circuses, where they are taught to perform tricks because of their intelligence and their hardy built.

The boxer dog is also defined by its loyalty

Boxer DogThis is one of the primary reasons why the police love the boxer dogs – because you can count on your boxer dog to protect you no matter what. And best of all, you can also count on your boxer dog to be ferocious where the need for it arises. This is why for many K9 training units, one of the most frequently seen dogs spotted on the grounds are the boxer dogs.

Of course, the boxer dogs are very handsome creatures. You may believe that you are bringing your boxer dog in because of its smart head and its sturdy body. But you also have to admit that the boxer dog is a very handsome creature to begin with. It has a good build and tall shoulders, with soft fur and a very inquisitive face.

House training is a basic for young boxer dogs

As any police officer who has handled boxer dogs in the past knows, it can be one of the best dogs, and it can also be one of the worst. You do not want something as intelligent and as large as the boxer dog making a mess around the house, so be sure to start house training your boxer dog when the time comes. Not to worry, however, because the boxer dog is also one of the more easy to train dogs around which is why it has won such a following for so many people.

Socialize your boxer dog

It is very important that you make your dog friendly with other dogs and small creatures because if the boxer dog is not given a chance to socialize, it will turn into a beast not only for the enemy but for the other dogs in the neighborhood as well. To ensure the socialization of your dog it is a good idea for you to expose your canine to other pets as well during the course of its growth and development. When the time comes for you to train you boxer dog it is also a good idea to do it in places where there are other dogs in sight so that it will learn not to see other dogs as enemies.

Establish your alpha position

If you think that the boxer dog has the makings of a tough dog that you don’t want to mess with, rest assured that your assumptions are true. Because of this it is very important for you to make your boxer dog learn early on that you are the boss. Because of the boxer dog’s brains, you can expect it to be bossy at times unless you curve this feature early on.

If a smart and handsome dog is what you want that can go along with your athletic lifestyle or a good afternoon on the porch just enjoying the evening, the boxer dog is the right dog for you to train.
